MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

It's May, a celebratory month for so many reasons!

We have our own reason to celebrate - it's the month the motel was ready for operation, well, this was way back... in 1952. Although the project started in 1948, it came to completion in May 1952.

Sixty three years in the making and we are loving to be part of this great transformation.

Every year we've been involved in a project around the property, this year it was more like 4 different area we worked on:
  • the house bathroom - made it a master 4piece bathroom,
  • the lobby - reception area got a make over for flooring and wall finishes,
  • then another room, #5 became the cozy, contemporary, welcoming king bed for the modern days
  • and a 4piece bathroom as well.
It seems like I was quite preoccupied for the last couple of months to say the least!

Pictures from the lobby!

Here are some pictures from the king size bed #5

and here are some pictures from the 4piece bathroom

THE END! (at least for now)

MAY - our anniversary month!

Let's talk about the making of this establishment, originally known as Rest Haven Motel, DBA (doing business as) The Usonian Inn LLC, we are trying to preserve all its original elements and features. Here is a brief historic facts!

The talk and planning and all that, started in 1948.

J. Carry Caraway, formerly of Taliesin and living in Clyde at the time was the architect for the building.
Back then, it took longer to have a property design and build then in the 21st century. Kraemer Bros.  of Plain was designated to take on the project of building.

Here is a picture of the construction crew

The motel known as "Rest Haven" will be completed in 1952 and in operation by May 15th

The motel was the first highway lodging property placed between Madison and La Crosse on Highway 14.  That is a big stretch of 126 miles.

"Spring Green's Newest business enterprise, a modern, 10-unit motel near the intersection of Highways 14 and 23 a half mile northeast of the village, has been completed and was opened last week by the owners, Mr. and Mrs John Michels"

"A tow-story home for the Michels family forms the center of the structure, and long, low wings on either side house the motel units."

Once, more recent, an architect told us that the architecture of the structure looks worm and makes it very welcoming, like two open arms ready to hug you!

"The long, flat roof of the motel can be used by the Michels family as a terrace for outdoor living.
Each spacious room of the motel has its own bathroom, indirect lighting, radiant heating, and furnishing of modern design.
Within a week after it had opened for business, the motel owners had accommodated visitors from six states, and one of their overnight guests was Bob McGrath who plays with the Brooklyn Dodgers."

On Your Side - Travelers Safety Tips

Staying safe in you trip is important and more important is your return home as you left, well and alive.

Once you reached your destination make sure to know the lodge personnel, set up (what's near) the lay out of the property as well - if it's an outside corridor or an inside one and who well lit the parking lot is at night.
  • Don't answer the door in a hotel or motel room without verifying who is it. If a person claims to be an employee, call the front desk and tell them that (if) you didn't request any service and someone is standing by your door.
  • When returning to your hotel or motel late in the evening, use the main entrance of the building; be observant and look around even before entering the parking lots
  • Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and use all of the locking devices provided
  • Don't needlessly display guest room keys in public or carelessly leave them on restaurant tables, at the swimming pool or other places you shop, where they can be easily stolen
  • Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry
  • Don't invite strangers to your room
  • Don't leave valuables in your vehicle
  • Place all valuables in the hotel or motel's safe deposit box - do not write down and carry with you the code for that box
  • Check for any sliding doors or window or any connecting room doors to be locked
  • If you travel with friends staying at the same place and you go out together, be aware of their behavior regarding all these tips
  • If you see any suspicious activity, please report your observation to the management or, if that can not wait report immediately to the front desk personnel on duty
You should prepare for the worst-case scenario. What is that could go wrong, have the awareness.

Sometimes even the landscape around the building can play a role on neglecting the safety or rather emphasize it!
You worked so hard for a long time and planning http://www.listmyfive.com/d33b2294/The-Top-Five-Must-Have-For-Your-Vacation a vacation is an exciting event; you are all packed and ready to go, it is wise to it is wise to be informed and do some homework before your arrival at the hotel.  (http://voices.yahoo.com/travel-advisory-7996090.html?cat=16 )
